Vital Motorsport travelled to Northern Italy in March for the Europa Challenge organised by Iame, with Juniors from the USA - Dante Yu and reigning World Champion David Malukas (BN Racing) along with UK front runner Hugo Ellis in Senior.
The team showed their mettle in a bumper entry of over 260 drivers with Yu and Malukas both starting their heats in the top 3 turning these into 3 wins... for Malukas and two 3rds for Yu. Ellis was held back somewhat by being in the slower TQ group going P3 in group but only 22nd overall giving him a grid slot of 12, 11&11 for his heats then doing a strong job of 5/6/7th finishes.
Yu had a crash in heat one added to his 2 X p3's giving him p13 start and Malukas on Pole position. Ellis P9 start was converted well by the young man into P4 at the flag!
Yu scrapped hard getting Up to p7 when in a scrap was put over a kerb losing his chain so taking a DNF, Malukas taking P3 - with what can only be identified as inconsistent tyres.
In the main finals Ellis unfortunately had a incident at turn 1 leaving him 33rd from the start rising to P18 lapping faster than the leaders, Yu came through to P14 again faster than the leaders and Malukas took a commanding victory by a good gap, only to lose this for a small infringement that had no bearing on the race where he overtook on a blind bend under a yellow flag, 1 lap later handing the position back to the other driver, both drivers being excluded for the same infringement. An unfortunate end to a great week for the team.
